Grey and Kaela – Guilford Yacht Club Spring Wedding

The weather was perfect, the clouds were beautiful, and with a chilly breeze, guests watched Kaela and Grey exchange vows.  They celebrate May 3, 2014 as the day they started their journey as a married couple.

I’ve known Grey for a lot of years.  He has become part of our family and in the cool way that you can’t really trace the beginnings of.  Music and friendship had a lot to do with it I’m sure.  However it happened, having Grey in our lives has been incredibly special.  (I need to give him a shout out for being the music man at our wedding.)  Anyone who has had the opportunity to get to know him knows what I’m talking about.  He reminds me of my friend Graham Scobey.  Both are very much the dreamer, adventurer seeker, music lover, and always game to try something new and and have fun doing it.  Throw in an equally fun-loving and beautiful woman, and you have a duo that is destined for big things.

May 3, 2014, my husband and I attended Grey and Kaela’s wedding as guests.  It was our little boy’s third birthday and we spent the morning with the kiddos and enjoy the rest of the night together, just the two of us.  It was the first time in many years that I could enjoy a Saturday “date” with my husband.  When Grey approached me early in their wedding planning about recommending a photographer, there was no question about it…I was going to shoot it for them and have a blast doing it!  I would have brought my camera anyway 😉

The Guilford Yacht Club and the staff of Gourmet Galley catered the perfect backdrop for a small wedding of friends and family.  Intimate, incredibly good food, stocked bar, and music…the most important element of a wedding.  Kaela and Grey chose to keep their wedding simple.  No formalities.  A toast from the couple in welcome and gratitude, dinner for all, and hours of straight up fun and dancing to good music.  Wedding reception done right.

The Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station – Lindsey and Steve

The perfect spring day for a wedding.

Lindsey and Steve had their wedding consultation with me at Ikea.  Enough said.  These two have a sense of humor and know how to have fun.  They also have very good taste in Swedish meatballs.  Lindsey’s best friend, Sarah McCoy, is a dear friend of mine.  She and I met in the photography community and have remained friends for many years.  I met Lindsey and a few years ago at Sarah’s baby shower, so to be able to have the chance to really get to know her and work with her was a great pleasure.

A great group, an incredible love story to celebrate, and many memories made by all.  Thanks again to all the great vendors that we had a pleasure of working with at The Riverhouse at Goodspeed Station in Haddam.  This was my first time at this venue and I was very impressed with the quality of food and service.  You can tell that they make it a priority to take care of their brides.  Just a little shout out where it’s due 😉

Engagement Session with Chelsea and Daniel in Historic Dumbo Brooklyn, New York

“Dumbo, an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.”

When Dan and Chelsea met with me in person for coffee last year, we talked about where they would like their engagement session.  They noted that they live in Brooklyn in the Historic Dumbo neighborhood.  They mentioned the cobblestone streets, waterfront carousel, amazing architecture, and the Manhattan skyline across the river.  Their description was spot on if not better!  “Let’s do the engagement session in Dumbo!  It documents that time in our lives.”

But I was so curious about the history and the name of this area so I check it out.  Primarily a manufacturing district with warehouse and factories as well as train lines and ferry stops.  It’s also home of the cardboard box and Brillo pads, both of which were invented in the area.  Another cool fact, Etsy is housed in the Robert Gair building on Washington Street where cardboard boxes were born.  Now the area is in redevelopment but maintains and preserves it’s history.  New shops and local eateries continue to develop in the area and many of the old factories and warehouses are converted into luxury and loft apartments.

Dan and Chelsea are an incredible couple and I cannot wait to photograph their wedding.  They share a lovely romance and their attraction to one another is incredibly sweet and genuine.  Congratulations to them on their upcoming Fourth of July wedding!
