Wedding Weekend at The Guilford Yacht Club (Connecticut)

Kerry grew up in one of my favorite Connecticut towns.  Guilford is classic New England and reminds me of my childhood.  The historic architecture, the rolling hills of farmland, local orchards, Christmas tree farms, concerts on the green, and the summer craft festival.  The community is rooted in tradition and history and it was great to photograph a family that loves the town and cherishes the memories growing up in it as much as I do.

I’ve mentioned my fun new questions to find out more about my clients.  The ice cream question is always a HUGE help in finding out more about personalities.  Tom’s favorite, mint chocolate chip….good man!  Kerry, chocolate chip cookie dough….my personal favorite.  But when it comes to favorite food, Tom-chicken, Kerry-chocolate….my kind of people.  Keep it simple and to the point!

Their wedding was simple and classic.  There were hidden details throughout and fun was had by all as we were treated to the most amazing outdoor ceremony by the water.  Perfect way to celebrate a summer holiday on the shoreline.  In the hours leading up to the ceremony, I met up with the girls for getting ready photographs, followed by a stroll on the green.  Two iconic local shops, The Village Chocolatier and Breakwater Books, were the backdrop for fun photos with the bride and her closest girlfriends.

The Guilford Yacht Club welcomed guests through the open foyer into the reception area which is decorated in candle light and soft pastel linens.  Out through the glass doors, guests are seated at the ceremony site overlooking the sea grass and horizon.  Kerry’s vision is shared here:

Our general style is simple and elegant. The colors are white and light grey, with grass green and coral accents. I also incorporated stripes. I wanted the decor to be summery and bright, but with a New England feel (hopefully I accomplished that!). The food and drinks will be fresh and light. Our wedding day will consist of our ceremony, reception, and then an informal after-party at Augur’s Pub in Guilford.

And it was just that!  I think Kerry did a great job conveying her vision for the day she said “I do” to her sweetheart Tom.  The two are one of the loveliest and nicest couples.  Best wishes to you both!

Christine + Jeremy (Engagement Session in Stonington Borough, CT)

Two Americans meet in Australia and fall in love.

One from the West Coast, the other from the East Coast.  Each moved down under to Oz, meet through a mutual friend, and love is born between these two.  Such a great energy, connection, and utmost adoration for each other.  They radiate with happiness and you can truly see how much they care for each other.

Engagement sessions are a great tool for learning about your wedding photographer but also “seeing” how you feel and look in photographs.  Getting warmed up and comfortable with each other is huge!  The connection all three of us sharing during that time is going to make for amazing photographs.  To say I am looking forward to their wedding next year at her family’s homestead in Stonington Borough, Connecticut… yeah…I’m pretty pumped.

Congratulations you two!

Paul + Shannon (Engagement Session)

“We love to be outside. We run together, ride bikes together, hike, and camp. We try to always plan things Gracie can do as well. We both also like to travel especially short adventures to explore new areas.

A typical date would be simply usually dinner somewhere then come back and sit out on the back deck with a fire and Gracie. One of our favorite is Mexican where he gets a beer, I get a margarita and we eat cheese dip. We are pretty simple, but definitely both enjoy food.”

I love getting to know my couples and learning more about their lives and their interests together.  The commonalities are really fun at times!  Like, “the ice cream question” on my client survey.  You can tell a lot about a person by their favorite flavor of ice cream.  For Shannon and Paul…. peanut butter cookie dough sold at their local convenience store in Ohio.  Yum!

These two were married this past weekend and I was so honored to be a part of their day.  Stay tuned for wedding images in the next few weeks!
