What would you do to make the world more beautiful?
There is an incredible message in this book and that’s why I am a huge of it. Barbara Cooney is a favorite author of ours because she wrote Ox Cart Man which is a Reading Rainbow favorite of ours. Here stories are simple but inspiring and each image that graces the pages of her books are like small paintings. This story follows a young girl, Alice Rumphius, as she discovers the meaning of life and learns that ultimately, we should all strive to make the world more beautiful.
Follow Miss Rumphius as she travels the world, meets wonderful people, goes on great adventures and eventually settles down in a home by the sea, much like her grandfather whom she looked up to as a child. In what seems like unintended circumstance, Miss Rumphius finds s way to make the world more beautiful simply by planting lupine seeds for all to enjoy. I don’t want to give away the ending of this book but I love it!
Every child’s library should include this beautiful book both in it’s words and images. I have been lucky enough to find this digital reading of the book for you to enjoy: Read Aloud Miss Rumphius
